We often get asked "Do I need a VPS?" — and there are usually a few different scenarios behind the question, for example:
"I just want to host a website and have no use for all the features in a control panel."
"We want our services on a dedicated server that can't be affected by what other customers do in a shared environment."
"I'm currently on web hosting and wondering whether I could get better performance for the same or lower price with a VPS."
These are three of the most common reasons people start looking at their own server — and the answer in most cases is yes, a VPS is a great option. A very cost-effective one at that.
Your own server (VPS)
When you order a VPS through us, you get all the benefits of web hosting combined with the freedom to install exactly what you need.
VPS plans come in different sizes, and you can choose your operating system. We offer both Windows Server and various Linux distributions. If you'd like more information about which operating systems are available, feel free to contact us (or have a look at the list on the VPS page).
Things to consider when ordering a VPS
You are responsible for managing the server yourself — keeping it updated, troubleshooting any issues, and so on. Basic Linux knowledge is recommended if you order a VPS with a Linux operating system.
The key difference between web hosting and a VPS is the level of support. With web hosting, we handle all the services included in the package — mail server, web server, database server — and make sure they all run smoothly.
With your own server, you are responsible for the services running on it, ensuring they work correctly and are kept up to date.
"But what if I want my own server and support along with it?"
That's where our Managed Server option comes in. These are agreements that include operational support for your services. With round-the-clock monitoring, a dedicated support number, and backup management, Managed Servers are aimed at businesses where availability is critical. This is not application-specific support — it covers the server itself and the services running on it.
Some advantages of a VPS over web hosting
- Flexibility — choose the number of CPU cores, RAM, storage, and bandwidth you need.
- Availability — with a VPS, you avoid the main drawback of shared web hosting: sharing an environment with many other customers. You have your own dedicated resources and are not affected in the same way.
- High demands met — your requirements are the only ones that matter, and through us you can order exactly what you need to meet them.
- Full control — you are in charge of making sure your servers run as they should; you are, in effect, your own IT department (though of course we can assist you, or take over the entire operation if you prefer).
