IP address lookup

Look up an IP address or domain name: who owns the network, country, hostname, and address range.

About this tool

Enter an IP address to see who is responsible for it. Results come from the regional internet registries — such as RIPE NCC for Europe and ARIN for North America. These show the network name, the organisation that has been allocated the addresses, the country they are registered in, and the full range the address belongs to.

The hostname comes from the address's PTR record — the reverse DNS lookup. It is often very informative: an address from a broadband provider will have a name that reveals the provider, and a server will often have a name that points to the web hosting or cloud service.

If you enter a domain name, the tool first looks up the domain's A and AAAA records and then displays the details for each address. It is a quick way to see where a website is hosted.

Private addresses, such as 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.5, do not appear in any registry. They are only used in local networks, and the same address exists in millions of homes and offices. For these, the tool explains what the address is used for.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see who has a specific IP address?

You can see which organisation is responsible for the address — usually an internet provider or a hosting company. Only the provider knows which customer used the address, and that information is not disclosed to individuals.

How accurate is the country?

The country shown is the one in the registry — where the network is registered. This usually matches where the address is used, but large companies and mobile operators may use addresses registered in a different country from where they operate.

What is a PTR record?

A PTR record maps an IP address to a name — the reverse of an A record. It is set by whoever owns the address. Email servers require a matching PTR record; without one, their emails are often treated as spam.

How do I see where a website is hosted?

Enter the domain name — for example admax.se. The tool looks up which addresses the domain points to and shows who owns them. If the website is behind a CDN such as Cloudflare, you will see the CDN, not the hosting provider behind it.
