Page with redirect in Search Console: is that a problem?

Redirected page means the address sends visitors on to a different URL. Google will then show the destination page in search results instead. In most cases, this is perfectly fine.

When it's working as expected

The following addresses are supposed to redirect, so you can leave them in the list:

  • Addresses using http:// when the site uses https.
  • Addresses with www when the site doesn't use www, or the other way around.
  • Old addresses you've intentionally redirected after moving a page.

When it's a problem

  • A page that should be visible appears in the list. It's being sent somewhere else. Check the redirects in your plugin or in .htaccess.
  • Your sitemap or menu contains addresses that redirect. Replace them with the final URL so Google and visitors don't have to take the detour.
  • The redirect goes through multiple steps. For example, from http to https and then to www. Every step adds delay. Point the first address directly to the final destination. See Force https and choose www or without www.

If it shows a redirect error

Google couldn't get through. Common causes are two addresses redirecting to each other in a loop, a chain that's too long, or a redirect leading to a URL that's too long or empty. Open the address in your browser. If it says the page is redirecting too many times, you have a loop. In WordPress, this is often caused by the URLs under Settings > General not matching the rule in .htaccess or in an SSL plugin.
