URL is marked as noindex means the page itself is telling Google not to show it in search results. Google respects this, so the page won't appear until the noindex tag is removed.
For some pages this is intentional – thank-you pages, shopping carts, checkout pages, and login pages, for example. If services, products, or your home page appear in this list in Search Console, it needs to be fixed.
Check whether a page has noindex
- Open the page in your browser, right-click, and select View page source.
- Search for noindex using Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac).
- If you find a line like <meta name="robots" content="noindex">, the page has noindex set.
Noindex can also be sent in a server header called X-Robots-Tag, which won't appear in the page source. The URL inspection tool in Search Console shows both variants.
Remove noindex in WordPress
If it applies to your entire site, it's almost always caused by a checkbox under Settings and Reading. See My website isn't showing on Google.
If it only affects individual pages, the setting is in your SEO plugin:
- Yoast SEO: open the page in the editor, go to the Yoast SEO panel, click the Advanced tab, and set search engines to show the page in search results.
- Rank Math: open the page, go to Rank Math and the Advanced tab, and select Index instead of No Index under Robots Meta.
If it affects an entire content type – all products, for example – the setting is in the plugin's general settings for content types.
If noindex is coming from the server
If noindex doesn't appear in the page source but Search Console still reports it, look for X-Robots-Tag in the .htaccess file in public_html. You can open this in the file manager in DirectAdmin. Remove the line and save. Make a copy of the file before making any changes.
Maintenance mode or "coming soon" plugins can also add noindex. Disable them once your site is live.
Once you've made the fix
- Paste the URL into the URL inspection tool in Search Console and click Request indexing.
- If it affects many pages, open the issue under Indexing and Pages and click Validate fix.
