Crawled – currently not indexed means that Google has fetched the page but chosen not to include it in search results, at least not yet. This is not a technical error. Google has determined that the page doesn't add enough value right now.
You'll find this status in Search Console under Indexing and Pages, in the list of reasons why pages aren't being indexed.
Does it affect pages that should be visible?
Click on the reason and review the URLs. Often these are pages that don't need to appear in Google, in which case you can leave them as they are:
- Feeds and archives in WordPress, for example URLs ending in /feed/, or tag, author and date pages.
- URLs with parameters, such as ?replytocom= or sorting filters in an online shop.
- Page 2, 3 and so on in a list of posts.
If the list includes pages for services, products or articles, those need to be addressed.
How to get a page into Google
- Give the page its own content. Pages with little text, or pages that are nearly identical to others on the site, are the ones that most commonly end up here. Write something unique to that particular service or product: what it includes, who it's for, pricing, location and frequently asked questions.
- Link to the page. Add links from the homepage, navigation menu or other pages covering the same topic. A page with no inbound links looks unimportant to Google.
- Include it in your sitemap. See Submitting a sitemap to Google.
- Ask Google to take another look. Paste the URL into the search bar at the top of Search Console — the URL inspection tool — and click Request indexing.
It can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks before the page is included. Requesting indexing multiple times won't speed things up.
If it says Discovered – currently not indexed
This means Google has found the URL but hasn't fetched the page yet. This is common on new websites and usually sorts itself out. If it happens on an established site, it's often because the server responds slowly, or the site has a very large number of URLs with little content, so Google is rationing its crawls. Good internal links and a fast website will help. If you're using WordPress, see LiteSpeed Cache in WordPress.
