Whois protection is a service that prevents your contact details from being publicly visible when someone performs a whois lookup on your domain name. Without protection, information such as your name, address, phone number and email may be visible to anyone, which can lead to unwanted contact, spam or data harvesting.
Not all top-level domains support whois protection. This is because each top-level domain has its own rules about how ownership information may be displayed.
What applies to .se and .nu
For .se and .nu domains, there is no separate whois protection to enable.
Personal details are still not shown publicly, as the Swedish Internet Foundation automatically hides them. Only technical information, such as name servers and domain status, is displayed in a whois lookup.
Why whois protection is a good idea
Your personal details won't be left exposed on the internet.
You reduce the risk of spam, fraud attempts and unwanted contact.
You get an extra layer of privacy if you use the domain for personal use or smaller projects.
Businesses can avoid having their contact details scraped by automated systems.
We offer WHOIS protection for various types of top-level domains, such as .com, .net, .org and .info.
