Whois lookup
See who the registrar is for a domain, when it was registered, when it expires, and which name servers it uses.
About this tool
Whois is the public lookup service that domain registries provide for domain names. The result shows which registrar holds the domain, when it was registered, when it expires, which name servers it points to, and whether it is signed with DNSSEC.
The tool queries the registry for the domain's top-level domain directly — for example, the Swedish Internet Foundation for .se and .nu, Verisign for .com, and EURid for .eu. At the top you will see a summary, and further down the registry's own raw response as text.
The registrant's name and contact details are not shown. The Swedish Internet Foundation and most other registries hide this information for individuals, and we remove any contact details that would otherwise appear in the response.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I see who owns the domain?
Registries do not display the registrant's personal details, in accordance with GDPR. If you own the domain yourself, you can find your details with your registrar. At Admax, you will find them in the customer portal.
What does a domain's status mean?
Status codes are the registry's flags for the domain. "active" and "ok" mean everything is normal. "clientTransferProhibited" means the domain is locked against transfer, which is common and a good sign.
What happens when the expiry date passes?
If the domain is not renewed, it enters a quarantine period and then becomes available for anyone to register. Renew in good time if you want to keep it.
Why doesn't whois work for all top-level domains?
Some registries do not have a public whois service, or limit how many queries they accept. In that case you will receive an error message instead of a result.
